Facial recognition software is on the rise and is now being used in the most unusual places. A newspaper reported recently that visitors to the Temple of Heaven in Beijing (a UNESCO World Heritage site) have their toilet paper rationed by a machine which scans their face before dispensing them a 2ft strip. The management say that, as a result of the scheme, they have saved 20% and can supply a better quality paper than before.
